American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang is a graphic novel about Jin Wang, a Chinese-American kid who moves to a new town and just wants to fit in. Being one of only three Asian kids in his class, he is constantly teased by his classmates. Interwoven with this story is the re-telling of a Chinese myth about the Monkey King. The illustrations are wonderful, the story is poignant and true-to-life, and most importantly it features a cartoon monkey. Everyone knows I love monkeys.
