Caprica — Not the same as BSG but also good

Warning: video ID not specified!
I asked BSG fans following #Caprica on twitter what they thought about the show and here is what two people said:
@Johnny_Croxford said: “It started as ‘good’, moved into ‘great’ and now has the potential to be ‘awesome’. Time will tell.”

@BahamCrackers said: “I am really enjoying Caprica. It’s as interesting as I’d hoped, and the show is quickly getting into interesting territory.”

Totally agree. So here’s the premise: The story takes place on Caprica (the home planet of the cylons from BSG) and centers around the inventor who creates the cylons and his family. Zoe (the daughter) is killed on episode one during a train bombing perpetrated by her friend. But she has already created an avatar for herself in her inventor-father’s virtual world and ends up being downloaded into a metallic robot body…okay. I’m really not doing a good job of summarizing. I think you’ll have to watch it yourself. I would definitely start at the beginning though!! BSG fans will also be excited by a character named “William Adama“. I don’t think the Adamas were cylons on BSG, so that’s an awesome new twist for fans.

Anyway, unlike BSG, this show has a lot more techno-babble and fancy gadgets and things, but they do try to maintain an old-world feel for the city in a Blade Runner kind of way. Because this show is so much more scifi than BSG, I don’t think it will have the same mass appeal as BSG did.

But my biggest gripe with the show though isn’t the gadgets and stuff (which I actually quite like) it’s the stupid intro sequence. It is really cheesy and makes it look like the show is some kind of teenage vampire type of show. Maybe that was the point? There are a LOT more teenage-centered plots. And cylons do live forever…

I need to check out the podcasts for this show. If you watch the “enhanced” episodes on Syfy Rewind, they play the video with the podcast at the same time.

Final verdict: Awesome! Check it out!

I think they are taking their time to develop the characters on Caprica. I like the slower paced less action approach, I just hope some hotheaded TV exec doesn’t cancel the show after one season.

I agree! There is so much going on and so many ideas and twists they have to develop that if they speed things up I’m not sure I’ll ever keep up.
